The advantages they have over the off the shelf packages like WordPress or Joomla (or lets face it Blogger or Zencart cos they all have some element of Content Management) are:

1) You can get a system that is completely bespoke to your needs. We can discuss all the elements your online web application requires and build it eaxctly how you want to use it.

2) The custom code would be built in PHP which is open source and free – so it can be maintained by other developers relatively easily.

3) Oh and did I say we can build it exactly the way you want it to work – no more getting your head around posts & pages in WordPress!

Of course this bespoke functionality does take a bit more work that an off the shelf package but the results are worth the extra time & expense if you have an exact idea of how you want your site to work
